Anne Taft,Roy Seabourne,Graham Gopsil (not present) and Mayor Richard Morris were the Councillors who were helpful during the campaign and instrumental in the final stages of the reinstatement of the Lido.
The evening meeting began with a thank you speech by Mayor Richard Morris who complemented SALT on their acheivement. Linda Watkins Chair thanked Richard and the Councillors for their help and presented him with a cheque from SALT for the Mayors Charities.
The seat donated to the Lido by SALT, in memory of former members and friends Ken Buckley and David Parkinson, was officially handed over to Rob Dufty Manager of the Lido. Cheques to Heart and Cancer Research respectively will be sent at a later date, clearing SALT's funds.
The evening concluded with a celebratory dip in the pool. The sun setting in full view of those swimming, was a fitting reminder of all we had worked for to keep the lido experience of open air swimming, in Droitwich Spa.In that moment all the six years hard work were worth while.
Thank you to all of those who have sent their congratulations. We sympathise with the many Lido groups still actively campaigning to rescue their local Lidos and hope we can encourage and help them by publishing our experiences. There's water in the pool - 18th April 2007
To see water in the pool gives a realistic view to the predicted opening date of late May 2007.
The contractors have recently filled the pool and although there is no sign of the stainless steel liner but instead a blue moulded plastic finish, it still looks very inviting.
