Droitwich Lido History

Memories

Local resident Eric Hall who lived in Yew Tree Hill for many years was a Dunkirk veteran. Protected by the passage of time he managed to share with future generations some of his experiences. In "Droitwich Lido 1939/89 - 50th anniversary of the outbreak of war" Eric reminisced "the Lido is the favourite spot to laze with friends, the laughter, the shouts, the childish screams, merging with the chorus of today, filtering back through memories streams... ..as I think of the lads swimming there...the macho youths of my time... .. some of their names etched in memory on the plinth in Victoria Square. " We are reminded that not all the Droitwich boys survived the war. Eric himself is sadly no longer with us and yet his memories of the lido now live on.
